Visas & Emirates ID

Visas & Emirates ID

Your legal status in the UAE
underpins everything else

Your visa category decides how you are sponsored, who you can sponsor, how long you can stay and what you can sign. It is the foundation of the whole move, and it is easy to get wrong.

There are several routes to UAE residency. Employer sponsorship, the Golden Visa, property-linked visas and others each come with different eligibility, different timelines and different implications for your spouse and children.

The process itself is manageable. The judgement about which route suits your family, and the sequencing that follows, is where experience earns its keep.

Where it goes wrong

Assuming your employer's route is the only route

Many executives qualify for the Golden Visa without knowing it. Choosing the standard employer-sponsored path when a better option exists can mean less flexibility for years, and it is far harder to switch later than to choose well at the start.

Getting the family sequence out of order

Dependants are sponsored after the principal applicant, and each dependant's timeline affects school enrolment, health insurance and banking. Families who assume everyone is processed together are frequently caught out.

Missing one document, losing one month

Every stage has a specific set of requirements, and a certificate in the wrong form at the wrong step can send you back to the beginning. Most delays we see come down to a single piece of paper.

Not knowing what has changed

UAE immigration rules are updated regularly. Advice from a friend who moved three years ago is often out of date. Knowing what applies this quarter is part of the job.

Questions families ask us

How do I know if I qualify for the UAE Golden Visa?

Eligibility depends on profession, income, investment and other criteria that are updated from time to time. More families qualify than expect to, which is why we run a quick check for everyone we work with.

How long does UAE residency take?

It varies by route and by emirate, and the family sequence adds time on top of the principal application. With the documents prepared correctly in advance, the process is usually measured in weeks. Without them, it is often measured in months.

Can my spouse and children be sponsored on my visa?

In most cases, yes, once the principal applicant's residency is in place. The requirements and timing differ by visa type, and they affect when school enrolment and health insurance can be finalised.
