Schools in the UAE
Finding the right school
is the decision that shapes everything else
The UAE has hundreds of private schools across British, IB, American, Australian and Indian curricula. The right one depends on your child, your timeline and where you plan to live. Getting the order wrong is expensive.
Most families arrive with a shortlist built from rankings and Facebook groups. Almost none of those shortlists survive contact with reality, because the schools that look best on paper are rarely the ones with a place available for your child in the term you need it.
School selection is the first real decision of a UAE relocation. It sets your commute, narrows your housing search and, for many families, decides whether the first year feels settled or stressful.

Where it goes wrong
The waiting list nobody mentions
The most sought-after schools in Dubai and Abu Dhabi can run waiting lists of twelve to eighteen months. Families regularly sign a lease near a school they cannot get into, then spend their first year commuting across the city.
Choosing curriculum by habit, not by plan
British, IB, American and Australian pathways each suit a different future. The right choice depends on where you are likely to be in five years, not where you have just come from. Plenty of families pick the familiar option and regret it at the transition years.
Reading the ratings without the context
Inspection ratings are public, but they do not tell you which schools are quietly oversubscribed, which have a strong year group and a weak one, or which head has just left. That is local knowledge, and it changes every term.
Timing the application wrong
Assessment windows, deposit deadlines and the point at which a place actually becomes yours are different at every school. Miss one step in the sequence and the place goes to the next family on the list.
What we handle for you
- A shortlist of three to five schools matched to your children, your curriculum path and your likely commute
- Current availability at each of those schools, checked directly rather than assumed
- Honest notes on fit, culture and the things a school tour will not show you
- Coordination of assessments, deposits and deadlines so nothing slips
- Sequencing the school decision with your housing search, so both land in the right order

Questions families ask us
How long do school waiting lists really take in the UAE?
At the most popular schools, twelve to eighteen months is common. Availability varies widely by year group and by term, which is why we check it directly for every family we work with rather than relying on published information.
Which curriculum is best for our children?
It depends on your long-term plans. British and Australian pathways suit families likely to return home, the IB suits globally mobile families, and American schools suit families who may end up in the US. We help you decide based on where you are going, not where you have been.
Should we choose a school before we choose where to live?
Yes, almost always. Housing follows the school in a UAE relocation, not the other way around. Families who reverse the order tend to spend their first year in traffic.
