Banking in Abu Dhabi

Banking in the UAE

Get your banking right
from the first week

Your bank account is the hinge of the whole move. Rent, salary, school fees, utilities and transfers home all depend on it, and it depends on documents you may not have yet.

Opening a UAE bank account is not difficult. Opening it at the right time, with the right bank, with the right documents and in the right order relative to your visa and your tenancy is where families lose weeks.

Choose badly and you can spend the first year with the wrong fee structure, the wrong minimum balance, and an account that makes transfers home painful.

Where it goes wrong

Walking into the wrong branch on day one

Each bank has its own requirements, its own appetite for new residents and its own view on what counts as proof. A wasted trip in your first week is common, and it is entirely avoidable.

Opening the account before you are ready

Your account is tied to your residency. Attempt it too early and it stalls. Leave it too late and your first rent cheque, your salary and your school deposit all back up behind it.

Choosing the bank your colleague uses

The right bank for a single professional on a salary account is often the wrong bank for a family paying school fees and sending money home each month. The differences in fees and features are real.

Paying too much to move money home

Regular transfers for a mortgage, school fees or savings add up. Most families set this up on autopilot and only discover the cost a year later.

What we handle for you

Questions families ask us

How long does it take to open a bank account in the UAE?

Once your residency documents are in place and you have the right paperwork, it can be quick. The delays come from attempting it too early or arriving without something the bank insists on.

Which bank is best for expat families in the UAE?

It depends on how you will use the account. Salary handling, school fees, international transfers and minimum balances all differ by bank. We match the bank to the family rather than recommending one for everyone.

Can I open an account before I arrive?

Generally, no. Your account depends on your residency status, and most banks will not open a full account until that is in place. There are ways to bridge the gap, and we walk every family through them.
